Digital Portrait Practice

Here's the final result of my digital painting practice. I was aiming for painterly realism in this piece. Progress shots of this piece is available on older posts of this blog. The painting is done entirely in Corel Painter Essential 4 which came packaged with my tablet. The portrait itself is done in one layer and the blue background is on another layer. The painting took a long time to complete because I had to keep redrawing and fixing things. A picture from Chatelaine magazine was used as reference. What I have learned from this practice is a solid base drawing with correct perspective and anatomy will cut down a lot of time spent on redraws. This was a good experience, but I still have a lot to learn about digital paintings.

Great Artist Resource

I wanted to share this with everyone, I have recently found a great site, Awesome Horse Studios, created by four freelance illustrators. The site have links to livestream video where they provide critiques of work submitted to them and they also have video of various demos. It is a great help to aspiring artists. If you are interested you should definitely check it out. http://www.awesomehorsestudios.com/
